In the world of American Horror Story, the 13th season has brought an intriguing twist with the return of iconic serial killers, including the infamous Jeffrey Dahmer. This season, titled 'AHS: 13', has fans on the edge of their seats, especially with the recent episode, 'The Return of Devil's Night', which left viewers with a major cliffhanger.
The episode saw the revival of the 'Devil's Night' concept from season five, 'Hotel', where a dinner party hosted by James Patrick March (played by Evan Peters) brought together some of history's most notorious serial killers. This time, March's target was the powerful witches from season three, 'Coven'.
What makes this particularly fascinating is the meta nature of the storyline. Seth Gabel, who portrays Dahmer in this season, previously played the same role in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's 'The Jeffrey Dahmer Story'. Gabel's return to the character, alongside Peters, who also played Dahmer in the Monster franchise, adds an interesting layer to the narrative.
Personally, I find it intriguing how Gabel approached the role, especially given the challenge of playing a satirical version of a real-life serial killer. His interpretation of Dahmer as a self-indulgent and unaware victim of his own actions adds a unique twist to the character.
The episode's ending, with Cordelia Goode (played by Sarah Paulson) seemingly dead, sets the stage for an explosive seventh episode. Gabel teases that the battle between the serial killers and the coven will be messy and elemental, with spells clashing against guns and knives.
One thing that immediately stands out is the actor's ability to embrace the freedom and creativity that comes with playing dark and demented roles. Gabel's performance in 'AHS: 13' showcases his talent for bringing a unique spin to these complex characters.
In my opinion, the success of this season lies in the actors' commitment to their roles and the creative freedom they are given. The rehearsal process, where actors are encouraged to explore their instincts and impulses, adds a layer of authenticity to the performances.
As we await the finale of 'AHS: 13', one can't help but wonder about the future of these characters. Will Gabel return for another season of 'The Rookie', where he plays a serial killer named Liam Glasser? And what about 'The Watcher' season two? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the impact of these roles on Gabel's career is undeniable.
